Good Morning,
I have a Oliver OC3 and have been having problems with the carburetor it has a Marvel-Schebler TSX-406 it acts likes the float is sticking I have rebuilt it put a new kit in it no luck it will start and run but when you try to move it it stalls out when you try to adjust carb makes no difference in the idle speed I put new spark plugs in it the plug at the back of the motor dose not seam to be firing it has spark to the plug and when you take the plug out and roll it over there is spark but when you remove the wire while running there is no change in the idle speed and when you take it out after it has been running it is wet have checked valves none seem to be sticking and as far as I can tell there are no air leaks around the exhaust manifold. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions thank-you John H.
Hello John -
Just went through this carb hassle with mine.
My problem was that enough fuel wasn't getting to the carb. With the sediment bowl removed, I was getting only a slow drip with the shutoff valve fully open. The passage in the bowl casting was plugged nearly completely - removed it and blew it out. Took all day for the tank to drain before I unscrewed the bowl casting.
Didn't want to blow it out in place - that would have moved the crud back into the fuel tank so it could catch me again!
Your #4 plug plug might be defective. Try exchanging it into another cylinder and see if the miss moves with it. If the miss stays with #4, my next step would be checking the ignition wire feeding it, then digging into the mag distributor cap for a leak in there.
Remove spark plug, ground coil wire and turn engine over with starter. Should blow finger out if you have good compression.
