Title: OC-3 Track dimensions?
Post by: Doug424 on January 27, 2014, 03:52:01 PM
Just wondering if anyone has any info on the track dimensions. I need the details on pin/bushing diameter, track link specs etc. What I'm looking for is factory data or drawings, rather than just measuring used tracks.  I'm working on an idea for some replacement track components that could help these machines live on.

Doug: Used to be that crawler manufacturers produced a book titled " Track Frame Service" at least I know Allis Chalmers did.  I would bet Zimmermans or Bechtold's has this information.  I would assume that it was released as a service bulletin many years back.

I do have some ideas on how to obtain the stock necessary for the PINs and Bushings as I did track this same information down for an Allis Chalmers H-3 machine.

You are welcome to send me a PM or email and we can swap info. if that would help.

Good Luck on this detail - Orangeman

I have some new-old-stock tracks (HG, OC3/4/6) if I can be of assistance. Let me know.

I'm hoping to find a drawing, I have one for some larger Cletrac track components but nothing on the OC-3's. If I end up having to produce my own drawing I may be asking for some dimensions. Just thinking someone out there might have some old drawings. There was also another discussion and the tracks being used on the air rock drills. I wonder if Cletrac actually made the tracks for those machines?? Or did some other outfit make the tracks for Cletrac? Maybe Blake knows the answer to that question.

I'm not sure who made those tracks and track frames. I know Clark made the transmission, rear end, and final drives. Case used the same components.

Redid the pins and bushings on mine 30 or so years ago. Got the pins and bushings from Surplus tractor in the midwest - Berco, I recall. 1/4 the price of the Oliver parts.

The shop with the press said the tracks took the same jigs as the Case 310 tracks.

And we got a set of air drill tracks, frames, final drives and air drive motors from a scrap dealer about the same time. Ingersoll Rand, I think. The sprockets, rollers, tracks, front idlers and bull gears interchanged. The final drive castings and axles were very short - they might have fit the OC31? - and the track frames could have been modified to fit, but they're still sitting in the pile.

And Blake - thanks for getting this page fired up again!

Too bad Surplus Tractor is gone, they had a lot of stuff for the old crawlers. It seems a lot of companies that made the rock drills used the Oliver style undercarriage. So far, I have found Ingersoll Rand, Chicago Pneu. Thor and Joy all used.

Doug:  I was toying with the idea of making pins from 1144 stressproof.  Could secure a length and cut your own.  I am thinking that heat treating DOM tubing stock or drill rig stock might work for the bushings.

Anyone used this approach?  Thoughts and comments welcome!
