While removing my inoperable trans pump, I noticed the ring gear rivets and ring gear are loose. They will move 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. Any thoughts on the subject??? Could I use hardened and shouldered grade 8 bolts??? Yikes :o
I would think so. Put some loctite on them. Did you get the oil pump fixed?
No not yet. haven't had time to take it apart. Looks complicated from the outside. :)
Its not complicate. Quite simple. I might have an extra one if you end up needing one
Oh on the ring gear I was thinking. Just be sure the heads have enough room to clear everything!
oil pump is pumping. took it out and cleaned it all up. Probably just needed a better prime, but now I know it looks ok inside. is there any way to make sure it's pumping once the trans cover is back in place?
Once you get everything back together, start it up with the cover off and see if the pump is pumping. If it takes a while to prime, I don't think it's going to hurt anything as long as there is oil all over everything to start with. If it does not prime, it may be sucking air through a loose fitting down below somewhere.
The FDEs actually have a pressure gauge on the oil filter. I know the Ds have an external filter, maybe you can rig up a gauge?
