What transmission oil should I use in my Model "E"? Something that I can find at TSC or locally please.
Should I wash it down inside with kerosene first?
When I replace the transmission top cover, should I use some type of sealer since the gasket is gone?

It's supposed to have 50 wt non-detergent motor oil. Some have used simple 90 wt gear oil with no additives with success. You don't want to used hypoid or extreme pressure oil of any kind, like you would buy for a truck rear end, as it will make it very difficult to steer. The lower track wheels on your E also take 50 wt in the reservoir.
What's the inside like? Did it have a bearing or gear fail? If it doesn't have grit or metal shavings in the case I don't think I would wash it down. It probably wouldn't hurt if you wanted to though.
I would put a bead of silicone sealer around the top of the case to keep dust and water out. Make it so you can get it off easy though as you may be in there to adjust or replace bands someday.
