Do any of you have the OC3 or HG manual? I need to know the capacities for the engine, transmission, differential and final drives so I can get them changed. Do the final drives use the same oil as the differentil and transmission?
From the OC-3 Instruction Manual
Fuel Tank Capacity 12 gallons
Crankcase Capacity 1-1/4 gallons
Cooling System Capacity 2-3/4 gallons
Differential and Transmissions 2 gallons - Add 2 extra quarts when using power pulley
Final Drive Capacities (Each) 1-1/2 pints
Manual says to use the same weight oil in the final drives as the differential and transmission.
I use gear oil in the final drives and mineral oil in the differential and transmission. (Wet brakes)

The HG and OC-3 does not share the same oil in the final drives and transmission as the larger Cletracs do. They are separate compartments. You should use 50 wt non-detergent oil in all, including the lower track wheels and idlers.

I will be buying oils on friday. Do the trans and diff share the oil or are they divided?

The trans and diff share the same oil. You have (2) drain plugs, located on the underside of each component. Drain and refill through the large filler cap located in the top of the trans, just to the left of the seat. A "level" plug is located beneath and forward of the filler plug. On my HG42, there's a boss cast into the housing just above the level plug that says "keep oil level to top of plug" or something like that. It's there if you scrape off all the crud. Manual says 8 qts 50w non detergent oil. I had to use 9 to get the level plug to weep.
I have read to use either 90 weight GL-1 Mineral oil, or 50 weight non-detergent motor oil. The Mineral oil is in stock at TSC in town, but the 50 weight is harder to find in non-detergent. The functional viscosity of both are nearly equal, as they measure the types of oils differently.
Are there any advantages or drawbacks to either in comparison to the other? Both are safe with phosphor bronze.

Correction - if your model is fitted with a belt pulley, the capacity of the trans/diff is 10 quarts.

Thats who my parts book is coming from. The manual from someone else.
Many have used the GL-1 with success, and I put 50 wt detergent oil in my E years ago and it's fine. The most important thing is to never use hypoid or extreme pressure oil (such as you would use in the rear end of a car or truck) at will will effect the friction of the lining of the steering bands and make it very difficult to steer.

The main reason to avoid the gl5 and hypoid oils is that it eats the bronze parts. Got my manual in the mail today, earlier than expected.
No one stocks gl1 140 weight or non detergent 50 in two counties, so I will be calling petroleum distributors in the valley on monday
