Finally was able to pick up my new to me HG's.
They just fit on the 18' x 81" trailer...we were relieved that they both fit.
I thought the 42" was going to be an OC-3 but it is a very late HG.
Thanks to Zimmerman's for helping to identify.
The HG-42 has an Anderson Blade set up. Will need to fabricate a new blade.
The transmission is stuck in 2nd gear...so pulling that will be the first order of business,
the shift forks are rusted. Can anyone shed any insight on this. We pulled the rear diff inspection
cover and saw some light surface rust, but I need to pull the full cover.
The HG-68 has some corrosion on the valves, we are spraying them down with PB Blaster to
loosen them up...the valves could be in worst shape than they appear to be. We have to also pull
the head.
These are our first crawlers, the undercarriage, bushings and sprockets look to be in pretty good shape,
considering their age.
Picture to follow.
Fortunately the seller had a very large log lift and was able to easily pluck both units onto the trailer.
Trying to get the HG-42 off the trailer was quite a challenge...finally had to use our backhoe, lifting
up the front side and then the back side, sliding wood under the tracks, we then dragged it off.
It still sits where we dragged it off waiting for the transmission pull.
I have an OC-3 manual, don't know if I should spend the money for a HG operator/instruction manual?
Also, anyone know how detailed is the HG parts manual is for the transmission?
I have both manuals, i will compare them for differences tomorrow evening and post here.
The only real difference is that on the third page of the trans section, the end play is set on the HG at .002-.005, and in the OC3 at .001-.003.
There are a few places where the wording is different but comes to the same point, and unlike the HG manual, the OC mentions the identifying numbers of parts as shown in the identicle drawing.
Obso,
Appreciate your taking the time to look into this for me.
I am debating whether I need the parts book, or if it would provide
more detail on the transmission before dismantling it.
Thanks again.
I have the OC3 parts book and it also uses the same drawing. I would assume Zimmerman would know the numbers if you describe the part.
Nice find!
Good looking ROPS on the OC3; something I need to make.
Are those 12" tracks on the HG?
Post pics of your progress.

Wondering if the parts drawings are descriptive/easy to follow?
Thanks.

Thanks, the ROPS is actually pretty sturdy, might throw it under the sandblaster, new paint and
it will look just about brand new...
The HG-68 tracks are 10" not sure if we would have fit on the trailer if they were 12". The 10" seems
to have been quite popular.
We've got some work...
