Title: K 20 Trans oil
Post by: Bill Kycia on July 07, 2015, 01:32:56 AM
Where do you check the trans oil level on a 1930 K 20? Do you fill it thru the breather under the seat?Do you fill the final drives also or do they fill from the trans cavity? Thanks Bill in CT.

Here is a cutaway view of a Cletrac A showing the internals. I used light blue to show the oil levels in the different compartments.

You pour the oil in through the filler on top of the transmission, it should flow down and over a dam and into the steering compartment and then into the final drives.. From there it is pumped back to the top of the transmission. The overflow check plug should be on the back of the rear end below the seat and just above the drawbar. 1/4" or 3/8" pipe plug.

Blake that is how you fill the later machines.I fill my E-38 that way,it has the pump etc. I think the K20 is a whole different animal, kinda like a W. Am I wrong ? Bill

Yep! I thought you said 20C. Not sure what I was thinking. There are some guys on here with 20K's that should be able to answer the question. Sorry.

Blake is right that the trans case will also fill the final drive case. the early Model Ks did not have the case breather, and the 90 wt oil was added to the one inch pipe plug on the diff case just above the draw bar. Keep adding until the oil comes out the hole , around 5 gallons. If your seals are not in good repair, the oil will leak at the rear sprokets.
