Title: 1948 Cletrac AG6H Clutch removal
Post by: Brack38 on November 30, 2015, 08:37:27 PM
I can not remove the rear spider joint. The 1-5/8" castle nut will not budge. The nuts and threads appears to be well lubricated, not rusted or abused. I've put it in 1st and reverse to counter the pressure of the wrench. But... not luck. The gap between the two splines is ~2". Just not enough to lift the front spider joint out and allow the pilot bearing, clutch and pressure plates to follow.
Any Advice on how to increase the gap, between the splines, to allow for removal of front spider.
Or how to get that rear spider off.
I know my verbage is not correct but, I don't have my manual in front of me for a proper parts name reference.

Thanks,
BRACK

Hello
when I did my AG clutch,  it was a bit of  a  tight fit  to get the front half of the spider  coupling  out, but it is doable with abit of wriggling  and jiggling and some scraped knuckles.  Make sure you remove the nut which hold the prop brake  to the bottom  of  the  bell housing.
I struggled  my gutz out removing  the  clutch  this way leaning over the tracks and on my knees on the running board.  Later  ended  up  removing  the  engine  the get the flywheel cleaned up and shot blasted the clutch  face area. If you you haven't  got  a dozer blade on the front ... it ain't  such a bad job to take the engine  out. I would of done it this way  in the 1st place, thinking  about it now.
I renewed  my clutch  linings, spigot  and thrust  bearings as i don't  want to do this job again  anytime  soon.
Good luck with your project
