Title: craeler vs loader tractor

I have an oc-3 with ware loader that is currntly taken apart.I also have a ford 3000 deisel tractor.For general farm use ..would I come out better to restore this crawler...or put a front loader on the ford???

Why not put a loader on your ford, then you can also use it to help restore your crawler ?

not a bad idea..I know the loader need gears in the tranny....a new axle shaft...and the cylinder shafts on the loader rechromed....that would probably cost more than a loader for my ford.

does anyone know how much it costs to get hydraulic cylinder shafts rechromed?

The answer to the first part of the question, NO. Now when I traveled For Dana Corp and they still owned HYCO cylinders I was in some shops that made and rebuilt small and large cylinders. If you tell me where you are at mabe I can steer  you to someone close that can do that. Next thing not all cylinders have Chrome shafts, the number one example, most telescopic cylinders on dump trucks are not chrome

Your version of general farm work and my version may be different, but a tractor loader is more mobile than a crawler and around here a loader tractor has good resale because there are very few livestock operations, so no need to load manure and have a loader tractor.

thank you..I thought I would be better off with a tractor loader...but wanted some other opinions

I would like to recommend that you do both keep the crawler loader and equip the tractor with a loader as well.

Both have distinct advantages, it is easy for  a crawler to have a significant tractive advantage over that of a wheel tractor. Also, lower ground pressure.   I wouldn't be in a hurry to dismiss a good crawler shovel setup.  But in the end it really depends on your application that you intend. In my case I have both and use both for very different operations.

good point...i am intending to fix the crawler eventually,but what money I can spare now may be better placed in a loader.Then I can take my time and really do a complete rebuild on the crawler.

I know I'm new to the forum but, Get a loader for the Ford. It's going to get the job done most of the year. The crawler is important oct-dec and mar-apr. :)
