Can you help????wiring An OC3 with a generator,regulator,coil and distributor...I know positive is to ground,the starter motor goes to the start celenoid,the other start celenoid post goes to negative battery. Gen F goes to regulator Field. How about the two coil wires???and the Gen Ground wire?? and the third Gen wire?? HELP
This may vary a bit from make to make, but generally:
CB on coil to contact breaker on distributor
SW on coil to switch to neg permanent feed- either battery or live solenoid terminal.
G on regulator to Large terminal on generator
F on reg to small terminal on generator
B on regulator to battery or live neg.
Older gens with 2 small terminals dont have a regulator, only a cutout. these run through a switch which swaps current between the 2 small terminals according to the rate of charge you want- for example if you have lights on or you want "boost " charge. The large terminal still goes to the cut out. hope this helps not confuses. Dave

Harry, there are 3 terminals on the top of the coil, the big one goes to the distributor centre, and the others should be stamped SW & CB. The SW goes to the power supply. I have seen that terminal on an old coil marked A1. and the other goes to the small terminal on the side of the Distributor. It will still work if you get them the wrong way round, but may burn the points, similar to when the condenser is failing.

Most coils are marked Plus and minus. The wire that goes from the distributor to the coil always goes on the terminal which has the same terminal as the ground terminal. Coils are polarity sensitive. They will work the other way, but it takes more voltage to fire them. That is why 2 plus alway fail before theother two if you have a four cylinder with a mag. The sine wave effect. Also if you are running on 12 volt either use a resistor or a 12 volt coil. Much easier on the points. Confused Send me a U2u
