Hi guys me again. I was able to unlock the steering levers and the left 1 moves freely and returns foward on its own but the right 1 will not return freely. Is this a concern? Will it return after it has been used a while or does it need adjustment?
It was sitting for some years with the levers in locked position. Took some muscle to release them. My main concern is that the lever between the 2 steering levers, the gear shifter, wont move at all, maybe a 1/4 inch travel sideways but thats it. How can I free it up and what is the possible cause of this? Thanks I am glad to have this forum as I would never have tried to tackle this project without the knowledgable bunch of people here.
check that the gear lever lockout is still working. it is normally operated via a linkage attatched to the clutch lever and is made to physically prevent the gear lever from moving when the clutch is engaged.therefore the gear lever will only move when the clutch pedal is pressed fully in. these assemblies can often sieze up on machines that have sat for some time and take some lubrication and freeing up to work right.
Thanks Peter,
Ill look at it in morning.
What type of shift lever does it have? my BD has a cup and ball type arangement and it was very hard to move, all it needed was some WD40 between the ball and the cup as it was dry and a bit rusted up. The gear lever is easy to remove to check, by removing the bolts around it it will lift off. Sam
Thank you Cletracboy Its rainin so Ill look at it when it stops.
