Title: Bearings for sprocket hub
Post by: Thom Kelly on July 23, 2004, 04:28:56 PM
In an attempt to tighten up my drive sprockets on my OC3 I've discovered the bearings were shot, they're stamped Bowers 369 s and 368 a are these numbers good? The reason I ask is that they slid right off the spindle I was under the impression that they were press fit.  Thanx for any reply.....Thom

Thom, I redid my final drives and installed new bearings last summer. I dont believe I had to press on and off any of the bearings. If I remember corectly I only had a little tusle with the bearingd on one of the driveshafts.  OZZY

Are the bearings ok except that they are loose on the shaft? If so, clean up the shaft and inner race and loctite them on the shaft.

The inner bearing is fairly sloppy but the outer one the roller pins all fell out. I saved all the pieces just in case I HAD to reuse them. The inner race, if they're not a pressed fit, seem to be alright the bearings slide on and off with just a little resistance.

Thom, Sounds about like mine were. I bought new bearings from Zimmerman and put it back together and havnt had any problems. The trunion nuts shold be checked periodically. It is a common problem that some times they can come loose.
