HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / Price on OC-4
October 28, 2009, 06:24:48 PM
Found a mid 50's OC-4 Tractor.Owner asking $3500. The tractor is complete, undercarrage is in good condition. It has a blade and backhoe mount but no hoe. 3 cyc gas motor but stuck. Parked 5yrs in moderate cal. climate. I'm thinking $1500. What do you think? TO much/not enough? Any recent sales? Don't want to lose it by procrastinating like I often do. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Crux

Thank you for the responces. I'm always impressed with he knowledge that comes frm this site.I called the owner after realizing there were no foot peddels. Owner says the brakes are thru the steering clutches and the main clutch is by a lever similar to  the steering levers. The tractor has two transmissions one for the tractor and one for the pto. Thus a reversing gear for the pto? This thing is hard to figure given the original tractor. Will the undercarrage of this early model fit my 47' AD?  The blade and rams look like  a picture of an OC-4. I guess I'll hvae to drive the 6 hrs to really understand this tractor. Maybe I'll get some parts for the effort. Thank you for your support, Crux.

Hi to all. Im looking at this ADH ser 7244 which I beleave is a '39 The owner says the motor has been changed to a 6cyc gmc. Also has a second gear box that runs the pto in reverse? Does the Blade appear orig. or an add-on? Owner says the radiator is original but the hood doesn't look like my '47 AD. What do you thinkof this one?   http://s769.photobucket.com/albums/xx34 ... mview=grid

Other Crawler Tractors / Waukesha Motor
November 15, 2008, 02:38:53 AM
Well persistence has its rewards. I finally found a waukesha fc complete motor for my Clark tractor. It was coupled to a 5kw kohler generator back along a fence line in a gentlemans yard. So far i have removed the generator. The motor tuns but not freely. I'll keep you posted on the outcome. Best regards, Crux.

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / OC-4 Value
November 15, 2008, 01:22:16 AM
I have found an oc-4 in so. cal. seems complete but neglicted for years.I haven't checked but abasentee owner thinks it is stuck. It has a Anderson blade and use to have a backhoe on it. Motor is a 3 cylinder gas. Asking $2900 obo. Seems to high to me. Are these more rare than other models I don't see much on the site relatively speaking. Is this tractor comperable to a TD-6 in weight and power? Thank you for all your help, Crux.

John,I haven't had time to work on the OOC mtr. yet. Will the popback be from the air intake or exhaust? What might this indicate? I don"t recall the motor popping back while starting w/mtr completly assembeled if that means anything.   If the new tractor is an AG-6 will any other parts interchange with my AD.I'm thinking ware parts like track, rollers, sprockets ect. I read the discussion on mrt. exchange between the cont. mrt. and the OOC mrt. I'm going to work on the owner of this tractor and try to save it. I'm begining to feel like the S.P.C.A. of tractors. I'ts all good. Thanks to all for help and support. This is a wonderful website, Crux.

Found a Cletrac today. Tried to read firewall plate but to far gone. Had bunch of crap piled on it and was unable to look it over thourghly.Has a flathead 6 cyc. and was told it was a Budda motor. Was about the same size as my AD. Radiator top tank was plain w/no Cletrac.on it.  Any  helpful identification marks. Don't know if owner will let it go.Has the reputation of letting things ruin befoe parting with. This Cletrac is rough but may be restoreable. Good for parts for someone. Lets ID it. Crux.

John,I like that identification method and look forward to using it. After finding the problem cyc. I'll check for stuck valves and if ok figure on pulling the head to inspect the piston as siggested by Blake, right? I don't know how else crankcase pressure would build but by a ring or piston problem. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and support, Crux.

I think stuck valves will be found on this mtr. The way the exhaust stack cover bounces while running might be another indication of a cyclinder not firing or lack of compression. Knowing the engine ran less than 2 years before I put a wrench on the crankshaft with a mild helper bar. By working gently both directions it freed up to where the starter could take over. I should have checked the valves then. If I pull the head will the gasket be reusable? Whats a good way to check injectors? Can I pull one and hook it again to see if it sprays ? Is this a speciality issue? Thank you,Crux.

I've never experienced stuck valves creating excessive crankcase prssure, just no compression. Please explain. I'll pull the valve cover and take a look. The stuck valves would certainly explain the hard to start issue.Tannks for your support, Crux

I don't believe there is any more rags in the head. I checked it out real good. The Engine was stuck but was able to free up with alittle effort and patience. The engine never ran on all cyclinders that I can recall. I attributed the dead hole to a fuel problem. There is way to much pressure being developed in crankcase. You can feel it at the oil filler cap. Any other possibilities besides stuck rings? Any tricks to free them up if they are stuck? Thank you, Crux.

Got mtr. running but poorly. found a rag sucked into the head from air intake. After getting mtr started with the help of alot of starting fluid, I discovered excessive crankcase pressure. This was evedent by oil being forced  from front crank seal and oil filler cap on side of the engine. My thought is stuck rings. Any other ideas. I haven't done a compression test on the mtr yet. I don't have a testor for injector hole. Does this take a special adaptor to hold in place? Thank You, Crux.
