I like the overbore and bush idea, I'll check with Zimmerman on price, then decide on getting one for a pattern or just get both. I should mention that I'm changing these and the springs over to hard grease, I think its more appropriate for these areas. Along the same lines I noticed when I tore the track frames apart that several of the rivets that hold the guides for the front idler are loose, some apparently for a while as the heads are almost gone. my first thought replace them with  grade 8 bolts but some of the holes are tapered, and there isn't enough clearance on the inside for a bolt/nut. Now I'm thinking about welding them in place. Pros/cons? suggestions welcome.

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / OC-3 track hanger play
May 15, 2011, 04:38:58 AM
Well I got the final drives assembled and mounted on the tractor, and did a test fit in the outer track hanger brackets, and discovered a good bit of play. The inner ones were sloppy too but I took care of them before installing the final drives. What I need to know is how much slop is too much? Someone had previously put some braze on them and didn't do to bad a job but the worst one still has probably 1/8 to 3/16 play. The trunnion's look round so I'm assuming its the bracket, is it worth going the brass route myself or just get rebuilt from Zimmerman's? Also how critical is the centering on this hole in relation to the track frame alignment. Don't want to find out when I'm installing the track frames that its REALLY critical.

Thanks for the comeback, I'll ask Landis next time I call him, I've gotten about all my parts from him and never thought to ask. He has always been very helpful and really knows his stuff about these tractors. just finished the final drives, and the track frames and tracks are next so I'll be talking to him allot (as the wallet allows) Guess I should let you guys know that I am a truck driver and work goofy hours so I don't get to sit down at the computer every day so my replies might be slow.

Product and Accessory Forum / three point hitch

O.K. so I know that there was an aftermarket 3 point hitch available for the OC-3 and HG type tractors years ago, have even seen one at a antique tractor show. But is there any available now that can be purchased as a kit or does anyone know how to retrofit one. I'm considering fabing one from scratch but that is a last resort. I intend to use this tractor (OC-3) and it would be nice if it was able to use the three point equipment I already have.

Hi-have been monitering this site for a couple of years now and finally  deciced to join. Have gotten a lot of useful info and wanted to be able to participate. I have been working on a 1953 OC-3-42 for about two years now with an anticipated completion date of this fall (2011---- I need it to pick corn) While this is a frame up restoration the tractor is going to be used, as intended, for light farming. I'm not exactly a computer whiz but hope to get better at posting and even putting some pictures up as i learn more about navigating arount this website
