Thanks for the responses.
Hotratz, Yes it is a splice line about 6" from the rear. It also has several patches on the left side. I attached a better picture.
Bob, I am afraid I did that unloading.

I just purchased this crawler along with an OC-3-42. It was in a barn fire which burned off the identification plate. The track width is 68". It appears that someone had extended the hood or it has the wrong hood.  Everything is stuck so it will be quite a challenge to get it going.  I noticed the front support on the right side is tapered and the one on the left is straight.  Is this correct?  Did these engines have babbitted rods or bearings? If babbitt then I as sure they have melted.

I typically collect and restore old John Deere Tractors and Equipment, however I just purchased 2 Crawlers an OC-3-42 S/N 5WH074 with a Ware Loader on it and another Crawler that is similar but with a 68" track width. The wider track crawler was in a barn fire but on the surface it appears to only have damaged the aluminum items thus the ID Plate the paint appears to have been red.  I will post some pictures of it later hoping someone can identify it. I am looking forward to tearing into both tractors and learning what makes these crawlers tic. Hope to find lots of good info here and be able to post my progress as I restore one or both tractors.
