At this year's Tulare, California Antique Farm Show I had a chance to compare the Model F and Model 100. The 100 was brought to the show by a Canadian collector. Cletrac was the honored marquee this year. This was a 1927 Model 100 with a 6 cylinder gas engine, 6 inch bore and 7 inch stroke, for 100hp at the drawbar and 120hp at the pulley. Weighing in at 28,000 lbs.

The Model F was brought to the show by the man pictured, Leo. He is a retired Stanford hand surgeon who as restored everything from Fresno scrapers, Ducati bicycle engines to the second Ferrari ever built. Quite an interesting gentleman.

Not sure if pictures are going to post.

I have a Model F that that the previous owner rebuilt the engine. When it runs, number 1 cylinder fouls the plug with oil immediately. Also it pushes oil out the head gasket near the same cylinder. I have inserted a scope inside and can see oil on top of the piston. if the picture posts, you can see the oil around 10:30.

Could be an incorrect or broken oil ring. before I tear into the engine, I want to make sure that it is not something simple, like too much oil. The manual says 12 quarts. I drained 11 out of it. The model F does not have a dip stick but a float in the pan that has a measuring rod that is visible. See pic if it posted. I have a second Model F that has slightly more than an inch of travel on the float. The problem F, with 10 quarts, has 2 inches of travel. I am not sure how both floats are constructed so it probably is not a good comparison. This weekend, I plan on draining and measuring the oil in the second F. I am just wondering if there was a change in the oil pan designs in later models. Both of these Fs have serial numbers around 2500. Thanks for your help.

Hi All,

Does anybody have the proper valve adjustment settings for a Model F. Thanks.

I am trying to remove a model F waterpump. This engine has a horizontal shaft in the front which one side runs the mag and the other side runs the waterpump. I have removed the 4 flange mounting bolts from the engine along with the long bolt that holds the governor bracket to the front of the engine as per the manual instructions. The pumps starts to come off and has moved about 3/8 of an inch. It looks like the pump slides off the shaft but now I think the impeller is hitting the body so it will not come off without first removing the outside cover and then the impeller. Does this sound correct. I will try and post a picture. Thanks.

It looks like some packing would fix the leaks on the waterpump side of the shaft. But where the shaft comes out of the engine there is a flat cover plate. Does packing go in there also? I was wondering if there are shaft wear issues that might make resealing difficult. Thanks,

Hi, I am new to forum and have recently acquired a model F. It looks like it is leaking coolant where the waterpump shaft comes out of the block. It also looks like it has a packing nut and I assume packing on the waterpump side of the shaft. Any information on how to complete this repair would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
