Blake,
I appreciate that you keep this forum up.  It has a lot of great information in it and I hope
somehow it can be captured for future use.   We need the younger generation to be able
to research these great machines and be able to fix 'em.

Thanks again!

A picture is worth a thousand words...how about a few videos.
Here are some good references videos on the Case/Cletrac/Oliver Clark transmission and differential

Search on Youtube for

Off Grid Homesteader Cecil E Skinner Case 310 Transmission

I've been following Cecil's channel for several years now and he and his wife have put up a lot
of good videos.

Hope someone finds this helpful

Interesting to hear the two different perspectives.

Sounds like you all would recommend assembly lube, which,
I didn't give much thought to...I was thinking more of a good
oiling, etc.

Bought a Hercules 4 cylinder IXK engine casting date '46 that was rebuilt in '73.

Machine shop tags are still attached, pistons still have factory inventory numbers printed
on the piston heads. Everything inside still looks newly machined.
Was never reinstalled.
I sprayed some pblaster in the cylinders and put a little force on the crank and it turns over.
I would say it was mildly stuck from sitting for 43 years.
I have only turned it a few times by hand crank. I am planning to drop the pan and and oil up the bearings, etc. maybe
drop some 2 stroke oil into the cylinders, someone advised to prime the
oil pump, any other suggestions on what else to do before putting it to the test?

Stuffed in top of the manifold was a paper dated April '73

I have an early ROPS on this machine, so accessing the differential cover is not easy.
I plan to remove the ROPS and plan to reconfigure the mounting design.  I'll then
check to see what's going on in there...Seems I might be pulling it apart where it sits..

Thanks Chris, back in March I disconnected the universal drive (dog bone) drive shaft, as
the engine is presently stuck...so the tranny is not making any connection with the clutch/engine.

Other than a really large front loader...have you come up with any good ways to move
these units?

As far as weather...it's been warm so no ice in the differential.

Thanks Blake. Yeah the shifter are still stuck on the rails..The shifter shaft pulls right out and I can see that
it is not in two gears, this is crazy, I should have just pulled it up to the work site when it moved, but
I needed to have someone steer it.  My son was away at college and he just came home for the weekend.
Figured it would be an easy move..I still can't believe that it rolled and now is locked up.  I
just can't figure the issue.
Tracks are rusted but are free.  I don't want to try to disassemble in the area that it is in.

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / HG rear sprockets stuck
April 24, 2016, 08:55:02 PM
One of my HG's has a rusted/stuck transmission shifter and is stuck in
first gear.  Back in March, I removed the "dog bone" shaft between the clutch
and transmission, I pulled the machine about 100 feet with my backhoe and the sprockets and
tracks turned without issue. Today, I wanted to move the machine closer to the
house so I could start to dismantle the finals and pull the transmission.   The sprockets
won't turn, I tried pushing, pulling, dragging a bit and it is still locked
up.  Scratching my head on why in March, it pulled fine, and today, a fair weather
day and I can't get it to move.

Any thoughts?  I'd just like to get it closer to start working on it.

Thanks.

Not to hi-jack the Orig Post..but here is an up close of an OC-3 manifold.
Just a part number on this...no S&H.  Not sure of what Oliver model manifold you may
have.

Yes, here is one posted over at ytmag in the crawler discussion forum.
I saved it for future reference...a bit crude but I suspect it would work.
There was another using a 20ton? vertical shop press I think it was an OC-4 but I can't locate that one at the moment.
Fabricating a proper/secure jig on the business end would make it a safer operation.  I have watched the youtube videos.
Safety is number 1.  Not sure what Landis charges for the labor portion...any idea?

I'm thinking about trying to make a press.
I've seen some ideas on a different forum.
If anyone has photos or a link to the plans
Of a press that would work on an HG and can post,
That would be great.
What size bottle jack are you planning on using?

Nice find!

Good looking ROPS on the OC3; something I need to make.

Are those 12" tracks on the HG?

Post pics of your progress.

Jethrow

Thanks, the ROPS is actually pretty sturdy, might throw it under the sandblaster, new paint and
it will look just about brand new...

The HG-68 tracks are 10" not sure if we would have fit on the trailer if they were 12".  The 10" seems
to have been quite popular.

We've got some work...

I have the OC3 parts book and it also uses the same drawing. I would assume Zimmerman would know the numbers if you describe the part.

Wondering if the parts drawings are descriptive/easy to follow?

Thanks.

Obso,
Appreciate your taking the time to look into this for me.

I am debating whether I need the parts book, or if it would provide
more detail on the transmission before dismantling it.

Thanks again.
