I need to take the front mounted hydraulic pump off to fix a leaky gasket. I started on it but can't get it off. Anyone had instructions or information for removing it? Thanks.

My 1946 Cletrac BD has a Heil HT-35 dozer blade. When I raise or lower the blade, it doesn't seem to stay in one position. I am constantly having to manipulate the hydraulic control lever to try and keep the blade level and in one place. Any hydraulic blades I've run before usually stay in one position unless you raise or lower it. Is this the way its supposed to be or is there something wrong with the controls? Sorry for the ignorance but I am no Operating Engineer.

Does the weight of the hydraulic oil make a difference? Previous owner said he was using AW32 or RO. Thanks.

Well, I got my new 1946 BD home last night. One thing I noticed was when the blade is up, it will slowly (very slowly) start to go down. I don't see any big leaks on the cylinders themselves but I know the front mounted hydraulic pump leaks. Is this leak causing the blade to start dropping or is it the Heil control lever? It has a Heil HT35 blade set up. Almost seems like the control lever for the hydraulics is loose and moves easily between up, down, and float. Could the bouncing around while driving shake it loose to where it starts lowering the blade. I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

I need to pick your brain one more time Blake. The BD has a Heil blade setup. What type and weight hydraulic oil for it? Thanks for all your help and happy 4th of July.

Thanks for the help. So the SAE 50 motor oil will work in the tranny, final drive, and differential? I think I can get my hands on some at a local auto parts store for about $70 a 5 gallon pail. I love how simple these old machines are but the trade off is getting information to take care of them. It will be my first dozer and my goal is to make it last another 70+ years. Thanks again Blake for your insight.

Is straight mineral oil best for the transmission, differential, and final drive compartment? What weight? From what I read in the manual, one oil fills all those compartments. What is the recommendation for an old Hercules DJXC as far as engine oil is concerned? In the process of buying a BD and will be dropping all the fluids to put fresh in.

Hello to all. I am knew to the forum and need some help. I am looking at an unknown year Cletrac BD dozer. Looks to be in pretty good shape and the seller says it runs and works. He did say that a couple of the injectors leak as does the hydraulic pump. How difficult/expensive would these items be to fix? I have small parcel and would use it for clearing fences and smaller work like that. I plan to look at it this weekend and would like to be armed with knowledge. I will try to attach a photo. Thanks in advance for the help.
