Thanks Blake. You just saved me a lot of work.

For background info, I've had HGs for some 25 years. The first was a HG68 with a 230 inch Plymouth 6 cyl and 3 spd trans. Did have to redo the frame because of all the weight up front, but it worked great until the engine finally went south.

Subsequently built an HG42 out of 3 donors and did the Model T transmission conversion, which is written up on this site somewhere. Had a time of it getting the magneto timed correctly, but it seems great now. Also fabricated an up/down & tilt plow mounted on a frame under the chassis, so the chassis will not get stressed. It is a hard working machine, not a show piece.

I must say thanks to Blake and this site, and to Landis Zimmerman for all the help I've gotten.

Thanks Blake.  I still think I'm going to try to de-sale the engine (only) with radiator flush and/or white vinegar.

PS: You may remember me from the past. I wrote the article about the model T trans installation.  Also, so far not able to do the signature thing, don't know why. Will try again soon.

MY HG seems to run too hot. My temp gauge reads 220 degrees after it has stabilized. I know the boiling point of antifreeze mix is 2665, but would like to see the engine running below 200.  Has a new radiator core, tight belt, etc. It's a '47 model with no water pump.

What is the normal operating temp?
