I too am looking for an alternate diesel engine for a BD. It would have to be similar low RPM, but a little more horsepower would be OK.
What are the specs on a 6354?

I have just taken two sprockets off my BD....it was not easy, and it took several weeks. I built a puller as described by previous members. I could only fit a 12ton jack in between the threaded rod. I used heat and a sledgehammer. When that didn't work I went to a 20ton jack, wrapping a 3/8 #70 chain through the spokes and over the jack. Don't try this without having your life insurance paid up! It's very dangerous. But even that, with heat and beating on the back of the sprocket didn't work.

What worked for one was using the threaded rod setup. But I replaced the jack with a thick piece of shaft, or big wrist pin, tighten the cross member as much as possible, then beat on the cross member....in toward the stub axle.
However that didn't work on the second one.

The second one came off by beating the opposite way (inward) on the sprocket while having the jack excerting extreme pressure outward. It just popped off after 5 swings.

NOTE: leave the nut on the end to prevent things from flying around.

I have pictures when I figure out how to post them.

The float is brass and is in the shape of a small hockey puck. I have not seen another one even close to the same size or shape.
It does leak and I had unsuccessfully tried to solder it years back. I was able to piggyback a piece of cork onto it, which was working up until it calved in the middle of a parade last summer. Hence the search for a better solution.
I will try epoxy and some new cork, if I can't find what I need.
By the way...I just missed a complete TTX 21 carb. on e-bay, and not far from me.  :'(

Oh man its been awhile since I was on this site!
I haven't been running the BD as the fan belt broke and with the hydraulic pump on the front I couldn't figure out how to get at it.
Life has been getting in the way of my old crawlers and tractor hobby. I just built a new shop, kids are growed up and gone...I'm back in the saddle.

Please help...I have a Schebler TTX 21 carburetor that has a defective float. I can't find a new float anywhere, but I am wondering if there is a more readily available replacement/interchangeable carburetor that will work? Its off a 1945 Oliver 99 ....or a Hart-Parr 28-44 would be the same I assume.

Thanks for the input. I have some good ideas to start with now. Luckily I have a parts BD to work with. (The sprockets on it aren't much better)

My drive sprockets are worn very badly on my BD. I haven't been able to find anything on the web or anywhere else. I have heard shells are available to weld on. Any suggestions on how or where to build them up?

All Models Except HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / BD missing
September 28, 2002, 01:44:58 AM
Thanks Blake and John.
It does run reasonably well under a load Blake. It is a Bosch pump. I have previously determined which cylinders are missing (the most) by loosening then tightning the injector lines one at a time and listening for a change in the engine. I then swithed injectors with no change in the missing cyl.(s) I have also drained, flushed and put fresh oil in the pump and gov.
I still dont know if it is the pump, the valves or the rings etc. I hope Blake is right, and its just the nature of the beast.
Thanks again

I use my Cletrac BD for clearing fencelines, digging stones, and just around the yard. Someday I will restore it and take it to shows. Its a great stress releiver!

I have a 1950 BD that runs poorly when cold. It turns over very easy...too easy. I think it has low compression. It misses terribly. I have had the injectors out and serviced with not much improvement noticed. After its at working temperature it smooths out a lot.
Any thoughts on what to do?
