HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / Motor mount?
November 05, 2017, 03:44:19 PM
On the right side of my 1950 HG-31 there is a piece of round brass rod that is brazed to the frame and bolted to the side of the engine, making it very difficult to see the timing mark on the flywheel. Does this really need to be there? There are bolts holding the bell housing to the frame.
Thanks for the spark plug numbers also!

My HG-31 has a straight threaded rod with a spring and a yoke that attaches to the clutch pedal. It is attached to linkage inside the bell housing.

The spring is between the bell housing and the yoke.

What spark plugs are the best ones to use in a 1950 HG? My HG apparently had the original plugs. There is no manufacturer or number on them.

Orangeman: Go to their website- quikcenter.com. They can be ordered individually or in sets, coarse or fine thread. Bert

Try using a thing called a Quick Center tool. They advertise that their tool will self center on a broken stud or stuck bolt allowing it to be

drilled out. I have not needed to use one (yet!), but they have been mentioned on other tractor sites. Worth a try! Bert

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / Re: HG-31 friction discs

Thanks for your help. The friction disc was indeed stuck to the flywheel. A re-built clutch and friction disc from Zimmerman's fixed the issue!

There is a friction disc riveted to the flywheel, and the pressure plate is just metal. Is there a friction disc that goes on the pressure plate?

The owners manual shows 2 friction facings. The clutch was stuck last year, and I was unable to break it free.

Got the clutch taken out of my 1950 HG-31 and I was wondering if the pressure plate was supposed to have a friction disc? There is a friction disc on the flywheel. What is the minimum thickness of the friction disc on the flywheel?

I have the same exact problem with my HG-31. I have tried soaking the clutch disk in brake cleaner, but no luck. I also tried locking the brakes down and turning the drive shaft with a pry bar, and even keeping tension on the bar for a couple days with no luck...........
Guess the only fix is to jack up the transmission to remove the drive shaft to access the clutch housing in order to remove it.

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / Yellow paint

When I sanded down the hood of my '50 HG-31 I found yellow, then under that was green, under that was Cletrac orange, then a gray primer so I am not sure of the "original" color!

I have a 1950 HG-31 with a loader and have only seen one other and it had a sidewalk plow on it. My guess is that the must be somewhat rare, especially here in the east.

Suggest trying a Ford/New Holland or any of the Ford N series catalogs. My 1950 HG uses a Marvel-Schlebler carb that is very similar to the one on my 1948 8N.

Anyone have any idea how many HG-31's were built in total? How about in 1950? (the year mine was built). Thanks

Does anyone have an idea what a 1950 HG-31 had for an original seat? Was it the pan seat or an upholstered one as on OC's. Thanks

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / HG-31 Steering levers
February 19, 2006, 05:03:18 PM
I have a 1950? HG 31, S/N 53GA664 with a Ware(?) loader. The steering levers are both straight up and down, not like the ones I have seen posted on this site. Any ideas as to why? Thanks
