"Logger Special" Cletrac

In a brochure I have for "A" model Cletracs It says there was a logger special package. This included a demountable front crank, front towhook, full skidpan, heavyduty front springs, and special sprockets. Anybody ever seen one? I think the one I am working on now is this "Logger Special" I haven't looked the sprockets and springs over close yet, but the rest fits the description.

I have a price list which lists the logger special, but also with a front bumper and larger track frames from a model B. Sam

I do remember it saying it came with the bumper too. I don't have it on mine. As a matter of fact I have never seen one of those bumpers on a tractor around my area either. Of course when the winch was mounted there are two rods that run to the front where the bumper would be. Maybe they just didn't put it back on.

I don't think mine has "B" track frames on it but there is a possibility they were changed.

Did your pricelist have pictures by chance?

I guess I will have to pull the AG6 over close and compare the two.

Anybody have any idea on what color the tracks and engine are supposed to be painted?

From "The Oliver Tractor Data Book" by Brian Rukes the Logger special had the following equipment: Bell housing guard; Tracks, lower wheels and guards as used on Model B crawlers; Special rear sprockets; 48"bumper, forestry type; front pull hook.  I remember reading somewhere that the special sprockets were refered to as snow sprockets, these have the bottom area between the sprocket teeth cut out on both sides to better allow debris to be expelled.  In 1948 the basic AG was $2877, the AG Logger Special was $3147 and was 500 lbs heavier.

I think the sprockets look like that. I'll send you a pic. Someone looked at them and thought they were just worn that deep. The points wern'e sharp enough to be worn that deep though.

I have another brocheure that tells about the logger special and the track specs on the B and A. I am going to measure the track pins to tell for sure.

Some of that stuff shows up in my parts book if I remember correctly. Take a look at your serial number especially the lettersin the serial number. I looked at a B last month minus engine. It also has different front sprockets and had an L in the serial number.

If it has an L in the model degignation it is a logger for sure. I have a brocheure that tells all about that. The book is about 5yrs newer than the tractor though. The letters on mine are odd though. Between the G and H there is a 3 above the middle. It looks out of place, like an afterthought. I am wondering if that was the old designation. Maybe the newer ones they put different things on it.

The year is about 1940.
