I have a Trasco Aux box in my OC3. The input shaft is looking pretty rough, Does any one know of a replacment available? Will a unmodified model A input shaft work if I use the A clutch disc? Thanks

I don't know. I would recommend you call Landis Zimmerman at 1-717-738-2573 to see if he has a replacement shaft.

The problems are with the Model A clutch not fitting the Hercules flywheel and the Cletrac throwout bearing not fitting over the Model A shaft.  The Model A throwout bearing won't fit the Cletrac fork.

A Model A input shaft can be turned on a lathe and the splines recut to fit the Cletrac clutch.  That's what I did.  Mike Shanley, Woodbury MN

If you want to do what you want to do, you have to do what you have to do.

What I finally did was turn the shaft down (a very tallented neighbor with a nice lathe) of another really nice Ford A and recut the spines. A word of caution to those that chose this path is that every Ford A shaft I have has a different inside hole bore diameter and depth so turning the outside it gets real thin on some shafts.

I think you made a good choice in re-machining that Model A shaft.  I hope it works well for you.

I suggest you use a good quality EP Lube in that shuttle transmission.  As you can see from the drive gear on your old shaft, that gear gets the snot beat out of it!  Its mate on the intermediate shaft takes a beating too.  Being that the shuttle has its own lube, use the heaviest and best you can find that will ease that pressure and wear.  I will use 75W140 synthetic in mine, when the machine is finished.

One more thing: Those Model A transmissions leak! (Some refer to them as "self drainers.")  O-ring grooves can be cut into shafts that have exposed ends, and then use O-rings to help slow the leaks.  Or simply check the fluid level often and add lube as needed.  You can buy a lot of oil for the cost of re-doing that input shaft./     MIke Shanley, Woodbury MN
