Just what is 'Cletrac style steering'?

I see it referred to all the time and can't find a good explaination. I know there are brakes on each side. Are there also clutches that release? Is a differential involved?  Thank.s  Jim

On regular "Cletrac steering" there are no steering clutches.

Late Spot Turn tractors used clutches inside the brake drums, but this is different. The OC-96 used hydraulically actuated clutches and brakes and could counter-rotate, but again, it is completely different. Neither of these would be considered "Cletrac steering".

What I think you were trying to say, and what I've observed since re-lining my brakes with Ray's Magic Brake Lining, is that when a turning brake is fully applied, the differential becomes a 4:1 (or something) gearbox with no differential action at all. If you stop either track the engine will stall.
Just my observation, when I tear it down to fix the tranny this winter, I'll check it out better.
