BD exhaust

does anyone know what the pros and cons of installing a muffler on a BD are? I think a straight pipe was stock, but have seen pictures of mufflers installed, if i do put one on mine what would be the proper one,as far as backpressure and size? if anyone has done this what would you suggest? thanks
