Aux. reverser trans

Hey guys, I recently brought home a couple more crawlers. An OC-4 and an OC-3 that is set up with a loader and a back-hoe attachment. This crawler also has an aux. transmision in it.

I've read on here that some of the aux. trans. were just reversers. This one looks just like a model A trans. but when I shift it it seems to only have two positions other than neutral. It also has a thumb screw installed in the top cover over what would be the shift fork shaft on the left side.

Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference? If this is just a reverser is it just a mod. A trans with 2nd and 3rd disabled?

 Ive seen all types of mods with the trasco set up. Mostly because some thing have worn out in them and and they rigged them to work. Ive seen trascos with no reverse idler, trascos with no shift cover on them except a plate to cover the gears. Mine had a plate and the second gear was welded to the mainshaft permenantly in second gear. I had a new input shaft machined by a friend out of a good model A trans for mine so I could use all the gears again. As for your reverser box set up I guess if you had the main in 3rd it would work well. As for my project Im still waiting to find a good herc IXB 3 engine or finish my IXB 5 conversion. Still -20 at nite so OC3 project still on hold till spring which is late up here in Alaska. DP
