The final drive on my HG-42 blew up destroying the bull gear and casting.  Will the final drive from an OC-3 bolt up in its place?
Are the left & right sides interchangeable?

Anyone have an OC or HG-42 final drive or a parts machine within 300 miles of Little Rock, AR?

HELP!

I do know that late HG tractors had the improved final drives of the OC-3. You caught me in a bad 2 weeks here to look this stuff up, but I would compare or do you have a serial number for your HG.

If you have an opportunity to compare, that would be a great help.

As for serial number, the tag is missing from my machine & I don't know where else to look for the S/N.

Left and right housings are the same .Most HG's had ball brearings on the axle and OC3's used tapered roller bearings . Some housings vary in width even on the same guage crawler .

Ummm. I ran into that too on the 3's.

The later ones had main frames that ran to the back of the differential, fitted between the differential case and the final drive housings. The housings were 3/8 or 1/2" shorter to accommodate the frame thickness.

I want you guys to know how much I appreciate the feedback on my question.  I can almost feel myself getting smarter.

Zimmerman advised that I measure the length from the mounting flange to the outside of the final drive cover to reconcile the early/late model question.

Mine measures 15-1/2".  There is no frame extension between the differential case and the final drive flange.

I think finding a replacement is my best option.  Turns out I'll be travelling between Arkansas & Wisconsin at the end of the month.  Anyone here in the midwest have a spare final drive they will sell?  (I will post this also in the classifieds section).

Thanks!
