ADH Track adjustment spring

I will need to adjust the track tension on my ADH crawler among other things and knew I was up agaist some frozen parts. After opening up access plates and cleaning out the accumilated dirt, mice nests, ect I find the adjusting nuts have been torch cut by someone in the past to get them to move, this may have worked on one as the torch cut is now on the backside of the nut. I thought this was bad but reaching my hand up into the track frame cavity I can feel that the large coil spring for the tension is broken in two places. I guess I will be breaking the track and taking the idler wheel and everything out the front. Any suggestions? I guess I will call Zimmermans and see if they have a good spring. I think the otherside may be ok springwise as far as I can feel but it will probable have to come apart just to free it up. I forsee alot of torch work.

I took my adjusters out of my ADH. They wern't too bad. Once they come out there are a couple pins that push out so the spring and adjuster will come out without the wheel. Take it to a big vice mounted to something heavy, a torch, and a big wrench. Wire brush the screw and beat the nut with a hammer. Then heat it up a long time and wrench it. It took me and a friend to get mine loose but they work good now.

Thanks for the info Bob, I will keep you in mind for the spring but I will give Zimmermans a call to see if they have it as I need to pick up some lower rollers and a rock guard from them already. Luckly I will be in the area for the Hershey car show and they are not too far away. I might as well get new adj. nuts as mine are torch cut and if I am going to have the assemble out I might as well once I get the frozen ones off. My tracks are not looking too good themselves, what is the chance of finding a decent set of tracks?

The chance of finding good tracks is good luck... My neighbor had a set that were on a tractor for a couple months.
