I have just purchased an old oliver crawler with an engine model# D2120 and a spec. # D2120X7. Is this a Hercules engine? I believe it has a cracked block, does anyone know where I can get a new one? Also I live in Alaska so shipping is also a concern.

Moving to the proper forum....

The OC-96 is one of my favorite tractors because I used to drive ours when I was about 5 years old. Took no physical effort whatsoever.

This tractor has a direct injection 4 cylinder Hercules engine. I know they are prone to breaking crankshafts, as ours did once.

I don't have the other specs handy here, but perhaps someone else will post them.

I am also not sure where to get a block. Perhaps a DOOC diesel from an AD would bolt in? I do not know this, and it may be as hard to find one of them as it is to find the right engine.

You have a late OC9. The earlier ones had a 198 cubic inch engine, the later one have a 1/8 inch larger bore ans the extra 14 cubic inch displacement. Now my questions are: Why do you believe the block is cracked? Is the crack external or internally in the engine. Do you know what stiching or cold crack repair is? Send me a reply and I will send you more information. Yes it is a Hercules.

Thank you for your help. It sure is nice to get some info. on this machine. I have only owned it for about 2 weeks and I have been working on it in my spare time, of which I have very little. The reason I believe the block is cracked is because I drained 5 gallons of antifreeze out of the oil pan before I saw any oil. I am not positive that it is cracked.

When I pulled the head a few days ago cylinders #1,2 and 3 were full of ice and clear water. I got all of the water out and lubed up the cylinders, she's still froze up as of now but it looks better than should be expected inside so I think that I will probably be able to break it free. The head gasket was obiously cracked 1/4 inch gap between cyl 1 and 2 , this may have been the problem all along. it has been sitting for 14 yrs since it was parked. the owner said it started running rough so he parked it, he thought maybe the injector pump was bad, I asked if it was blowing white smoke or if it was running hot and he couldnt remember,  so it is definately going to take some further invstigation, time permitting. I do excavation work up here in Alaska and I am just going into my busy season. I also do a lot out of town work (or bush work as we call it up here) so I hope that I can get enough time to play with it.
