20C possibly orange when new?

Were all 20C crawlers painted brown and tan? As near as I can tell on mine it was always orange. If it was originally orange why? was it because it was from the oilfields?

I have one that also looks like it would have always been orange aswell. Also I have another that was a Military tractor I found Olive on the trans and frame ,but on the rollers and roller frame I found red. Any thoughts on this?

I don't have an answer on the military tractor.

Maybe the later 20Cs were orange. I thought mine was a later one. I guess I should try to figure it through the serial number.

Wade, those red lower track wheels were probably replacements that came with red lead paint from the factory, and purchased from a dealer.

That would explain the LTWs (rollers lol!) but not the red paint on the roller frame or maybe you would call it the "lower track wheel frame". Either way I m going to go with the brown and tan paint or olive and black maybe? By the way whats a model E-38 worth? In fair condition.(it runs)

They're just called "track frame" Wade. I don't know about the red on them.

I asked my uncle Howard if he remembers Cletracs coming new with red lower track wheels and he said he didn't. His idea was that they were probably replaced by a dealer. Just a theory.

Maybe someone drove yours through some nasty chemicals that stripped the paint down the the primer?

Not sure what the E would be worth, but probably at least $2,000 running. There are two on Ebay right now in Rhode Island.
