Opened up my 1xB-3 and found things in good shape except the crankshaft endplay, which is 101/1000.  My question-- will a new rear main bearing take up this slack?  It appears that there is a flange on one side of the bearing , but not one the other.
Should I just replace the one bearing , or all three?  Thirdly, is it safe to assume that since the rod journals are 20/1000ths under, that the main journals will also be twenty under?     Thanks--------Dr. Bert

Never assume anything. Measure the width of the crank at the thrust. Also is the side scored. Which bearing is the thrust bearing in this engine ? Early and late engines are not the same. No just because the rods are 20 is no sign the mains are 20. Take it out and measure it. You may also need the crank and the block built up. Neither F-M or Clevite will have main bearings for it. Questions?

John--Thank you!  After thinking more about my question, I realized how dumb it was.
This engine has the modern bearing inserts, so think, according to the book that the thrust bearing is the rear main.  At least it is different than my '46 engine.
