Cletrac motor

Hi, I've run across an engine that has "Cletrac" on the exhaust manifold, but I didn't think Cletrac made their own motors. It's a inline 6 cylinder gas engine. The engine is in the truck of a junked out Michigan Power Shovel crane. Probably from the 1940's or 1950's. I can't get all around the motor due to the way it's mounted. Anyone have any idea what this motor may be? Is it worth my while to remove it? I'm not real familiar with Cletracs but I'd hate that a motor that someone was looking for got junked. The guy said it ran when it was parked about 15 yrs ago.

99 chances out of a 100 the engine is a Hercules. Now how large is the engine as Cletrac used 3 different models of Hercules engines in that time frame. Does the engine have a single cylinder head or are there 2 heads and each one covers 3 cylinders. Good used manifolds are hard to find. John

Your instinct not to junk it is right.  If it is a Continental flathead 6, it is something I am looking for!
Let us know what you find when you see more of it.  If you can get some photos, that would help too.

Well I got out and took some pictures of it.
I could only get photos from one side of the engine as it's up against the cab.
I can take some measurements, but someone will have to tell me what to measure.
This is actually one of my sons projects. He's away at school and only gets home on the odd weekend, but I'll do what I can.

That looks like it might be a Hercules JXC .If this is true the ID plate is on the manifold side at the bottom toward the rear of the block. You might also look on the left side center of the block just below the head for some letters stamped on a small flat spot.
