Location of Serial on 55-40

We just recently acquired a Model 55-40.  We have been trying to find the serial number but cannot find it.  We checked all the usual places and even steam cleaned it (after rescuing it from its parking place of several years in a clump of brush) to have a better view of it.  Does anyone know where we can find it?

Also, did Cleveland Tractor keep any records, that would be available to us, that show where a tractor with a particular serial number was first sold and to whom?  Some of these tractors were used by the Forest Service in our area and were painted green.  Were they part of a special contract order by the U.S.D.A. Forest Service?
