20K Questions

Hi all...
Newbee here bought a 20K on EPAY last week, see ended auction 380301556127 . Trailered her home on Thursday. Got it running on Sunday and drove it off the trailer. Surprised me, since it was 35 degrees out. Now the questions. I do not find a tag on the tractor. Is the s/n stamped anywhere on the machine? Engine serial # is K7645.
The pics I find on this site show the front idlers with a recoil spring. This one has an adjusting bolt for track tension, and the idler is bolted rigid to the frame. Is this an early version or some special application?
I also have an F I bought a year ago. Engine is still soaking. Did not have 2 spark plugs in it when bought.

Hi Ed welcome!

Good to hear you got that old girl running already. The front track wheel (idler) is bolted to the trackframe. The wheel should have slots in the bracket holding it to the frame. This is where it originally slid back and forth for shock absorbtion (I'm asuming that spring has been done away with) and track adjustment. Whete it slides, it should have originally had little springs on the bolts holding the wheel to the trackframe.

The original tractor serial number plate would be on the right frame rail, kinda under the fuel tank. The little brass tags usually got rust behiend them and busted them off, and being right by the track got tore off quite often. I've seen quite a few K20s around, and very few have the tags still intact. If I'm not mistaken the serial number is also stamper in the trans casting, on the right side also, right where the frame connects to it.

The 20K serial numbers ranged from 101 to 10207, engine numbers 6520 to 19884.   The tractor serial number plate should be down by the bottom of the steering wheel column.  The engine is a Cletrac, the 20K was made from 1925 to 32.   I believe the engine is the same as that used in the late model W.  The W was an improved version of the H and the first W's used the same Weidley engine of the H.  Then Cletrac started to build the own engine for the W which was made from 1919 to 32.  The engine numbers for the W with Cletrac engine went from 101 to 19873.  The 20 K looks much like a W with different track frames and tracks, ie heaverier duty.  The only models that used a Cletrac engine were the late W and the 20K.

I did find the rivet holes for the tag. Still looking for a stamped #.
Does anyone reproduce the tag? Or have one lying around.

That is different. I've seen quite a variety of K20s and nothing quite like this. Even the front wheels have nubs on them like sprockets. Very similar to the W, but not the same. I will have to look thru my parts book again, and take a look at our K20 to see what is different for sure. I'll take pics if I get time and remember...
