Gas in oil

I've got an AG-6H (circa '47)  with the Continental 226 that I use for snow plowing. The previous owner put a hydraulic blade on her and she is one sweet orange kitty.
I'm having a problem with gas somehow migrating into the oil and diluting it. My tractor guy is mystified since the fuel pump is disconnected (gravity feed) and he can't imagine how the updraft carb can suck gas into the crankcase. I will certainly appreciate any insight that anyone has since we're set for  more snow this week and I've got a 1/4 of driveway.

Does the engine run smooth? If a cylinder is missing you could have some gas getting by the rings. Pull the spark plugs out right after you shut it down and check to see if any are wet or fouled. Is you choke opening all the way? Carb adjustments ok? Air cleaner clean? Good luck finding your problem.
