Just stumbled accros this October 15, 2005 Minnesota auction notice with a picture of what looks to be a very nice 1959 OC-3.

Just thought I'd pass it on.

Here's the picture:

I think it's the same Oliver backhoe that I have.
My gramps Howard van Driest was Experimental Engineer at Cletrac and Oliver Corporation. After the plant closed, he and my uncle started an excavating business, initially using Cletrac and Oliver Crawler tractors. Those look like counter weights in the bucket. Is the backhoe assembly made to disconnect easily? Also my OC-3 hyd pump drives off the crankshaft. Does this machine use a PTO drive?

The HG we have - that used to have the backhoe - has the pump in the front. The backhoe outriggers are manual and you just filled the loader bucket with dirt as a counterweight. I guess my uncle tipped the tractor on its side several times while using the backhoe.

That sure looks like an OC 4 to me.  The hyd pump would be off the front of the crank.  Had one for 20 years, very good hyd pump, a gear pump with needle bearings not bushings like most cheap pumps have.
