Questions about B series crawlers

Hello everyone,

I have some questions about the B series. I don't have one yet but the my search is about to intensify for one. Let me start out with what i want to use it for. I purchased a farm about a month ago. Most of the roads are in need of some gradeing, filling in of ruts, ect.  I dont have to cut any new roads or anything like that. I have pretty good idea of what that machine is capable of doing. The hardest it would be worked would probably be this spring and summer. Then enjoy a life of semi retirement and restoration work when time allows.  

I am wondering would i B series machine do what i need to do pretty easy or not. I know the diesel engines are hard to get parts for. So i would probably go with a Bg. How much does one of them weight with a heil blade.  I have a 3/4 ton truck and 14,000 trailor. I looked at a BG zimmerman had last year with a wood blade on it he told me it weighted close to 12,000. Which is better the 2 piece track pad or the one piece? Can you find a winch for these machines?  I you could get them new with a Pto or belt pully couldn't you? I am young and full of questions aren't I.

the weight with a blade is around 12,000 , the diesels weigh a little more than a gas model and the hillside models (bgsh,bdh) weigh a little more than a regular width. carco made a winch for these .and pto was available as a option. the diesel would be better for heavy work because of the better low end torque. i am not sure what you mean about the track pads,all that i have seen have a two piece grouser unless  it had rubber pads .the b model would be good for leveling and filling ,as for digging hard ground it would depend on the type of soil and how rocky it is.I have a  bgsh with a heil blade that works pretty well .with the age of these machines ,you might need to do your restoration before attempting the  hard work that you have planned .

Thank you for your replay Walter. I don't plan on diggin a pond or anything with it. Mostly has soft clay that i need to use to grade out the roads. I am planning on using an excavator to dig my ditchs and such and i was thinkin gas tractor because it is not as hard on them to start and stop them. I thank you again for your reply. I hope i get some more feed back. Also Walter do you have a truck that you move yours around with (ie take to shows or anything).  Just wondering i had 11,800 lbs of hay on my truck and trailor not to long ago and it handled it pretty good.

a heavy duty 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck with a 14,000 lbs capable trailor would be plenty .i recomend a trailor with a dove tail and a good set of ramps to be able to safely load and unload .
