Hi,

The quick summary: I've been tinkering with my Uncle's Oliver OC-46-3G. It was sitting up by his pond for the last 8 years. I replaced the points, Condenser, Cap, Rotor, oiled the felt, Wires, Engine Oil, Oil Filter, Fuel Filter, flushed out the block, Timed it and put a new spring on the throttle linkage.

She runs smooth! for 20 Minutes then: Sputters & a Pop out of the muffler and she stalls. Then will only crack over & over but will not fire unless use starting fluid then shuts right off. After leaving it for awhile she will start on her own and run another 20 min or so and Sputter & Pop then stall out again.

I have a small leak on the water pump and the bearing is knocking so I will call zimmerman's tomorrow to see if he has one. and the Temp. gauge doesn't work.

So my guess is after 20 min. the temp is getting to hot and causing it to stall? is there anything else I should check.

Also when I pull the throttle to full position she will rev up some but I can grab the linkage with my hand and push it forward (toward the radiator) and get a lot more revs.. I replaced the spring but only got a little more revs.

What else can I do to get the revs up at full throttle?

some times an ignition coil will heat up and cut out. is the tractor still a 6 volt system ? . if it has been converted to 12 volts was the ign. coil changed to a 12v.

You have me confused. If it will run on either (starting fluid) you are not getting gas to fire it since you still need spark to ignite starting fluid in a gas engine. Once it stalls, grab the wire that goes from the coil to the distributor cap or one of the plus  wires and see if you have a good blue spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap. Then get back to us.

It is still a 6 volt coil and it is new. I will check the coil spark after she stalls.

I'll let you know what happens but I won't be back up to work on her for a few weeks. I'm going to pull the gas tank a flush that out too. I didn't see any dents or pinches in any of the fuel lines. maybe one of the lines is clogging up..

At least she is in the garage again and not up at the pond much easier to work long after dark..  :D

I think you are on the right track. Also take the sediment bowl off and then take the shut off valve out of the assembly.

Try removing the gas cap
