We took apart our IXK and instead of a 3 1/8" bore we have exactly 3 1/4". Do you guys think that it could have been bored a whole 1/8"? I thought the IXB was 3 1/4. Also, I have a new set of pistons for a 3 1/4 IXB, will they attach to my IXK rods? Thanks for any comments.

Mike, standard bore for the IXK is 3.25".
IXA is 3.0", IXB is 3.125".
I think that the pistons should fit.
Talk to you friendly local engine rebuilder if you can.
Or call Zimmermans they are always willing to help.
I believe you can bore up to 0.080" over, I think this would give about 166 cu.in.
Good luck.

No.

IXA = 3"
IXK = 3.125"
IXB = 3.25"

Some IXK blocks can be bored to 3.25"

After the plant closed, he and my uncle started an excavating business, initially using Cletrac and Oliver Crawler tractors. Thanks for the info. Our machine man is going to bore and hone to fit the oversize IXB pistons that we have. The machine man seemed to remember that finding new main bearings would be tough work. Are these hard to find or are they just not listed in the latest kmart parts catalog.
I have found most things I needed locally without too much trouble.

If you are loosing sleep over the bore, find a shop that does high preformance work. They will nornally have a sonic tested so they can see how far they can bore a block. On the mains it will be cheaper to have them repoured. Neither F-M or Cletive has mains available

Blake, You are are correct.
I checked my Hercules "Operator's Handbook"
and the IXB is supposed to be a 3.25" bore.
The book I have is from 1940, and lists the IXA and B but nothing for the K.
Did the K part of the series come later?
The book I have is pretty small ad basic it's only 20 pages.
I hope I didn't cause to much confusion for anybody form my previous post.
A for the main bearings I bought a set from Landis Zimmerman and off the top of my head I think thay cost me $245.00.
