Folks,

I am considering purchasing an outdoor wood burner to heat our house and garage. I'd like to find a good used one as new ones are quite expensive. There are several hundred new gas wells going in our our area, so there should be several people selling their wood stoves since they'll have free house gas.

What brands do you have? What do you recommend?

Thanks,
Blake

After the plant closed, he and my uncle started an excavating business, initially using Cletrac and Oliver Crawler tractors. I assume your place has enough open space around it to be sure the down-wind neighbors won't be upset - there's a lot of issues in the NH/VT/ME area where people have installed them on smaller lots and created a health hazard for their neighbors...

If you want to do what you want to do, you have to do what you have to do.

Our neighbors are all far away; the closest being about 500 feet and the others almost out of site. I'd say most people around here either have gas wells or outdoor wood burners.

We're in a very self-sufficient area. I'd like to have a gas well. Almost all the neighbors have them, but due to the well spacing, I don't see us getting one in the near future. My mom and dad are getting one later this spring, so they'll be set on heat.

Blake, I have been using an outside wood boiler since 1992 and am very happy with it. I usually put wood in it twice a day and the amount that I fire with depends on the outside air temp. I heat a 24x32 garage and also a 40x32 house, and our hot water also. The make is a Heeatmor Stainless steel made in Warroad, MN. (Lake of The Woods).[/url]www.heatmor.com is their web page. You will find trade shows and home shows that they will have dealers at this spring. The first one developed a leak right at the end of the warranty and they offered a stainless upgrade for about $1500. The upgrade came with a ten year warranty and that was in 1997. This past summer(2007)  I recieved a card from them that extends the warranty to a lifetime warranty which I thought was very good. This stainless model has not had any issues for the past ten years. I burn any kind of wood, Oak, Birch, Pine, Balsam, Fresh, or dried and even blown down and dead wood. As I said I am very happy with their type of boiler system. Gerald

Thanks Gerald,

I have seen several HeatMor units around the area in my daily drive, so there must be a dealer around here. Thanks for sharing your experience with them. It sounds like they back their product well.
