my 20 year old son just bought his first antique tractor, a cletrac 15. from what I can find , they were built for 3 years 1931-33. it has a tractor transplant engine & the data plate is gone. did cletrac stamp numbers anywhere else ? did the 15's all look the same through the production run? what color were they? are parts available? are they somewhat uncommon? I cant find much on these. what model herc engine came in these from the factory? any info would be greatly welcomed. thanks, scott

Well the Cletrac 15 is somewhat rare. They originally came with a Herc OOC engine. I don't know if they had numbers stamped anywhere else. It is supposed to be the Brown and Tan paint scheme. I will be able to take good pictures when I get mine done. I do believe they were all the same, except maybe some without a toolbox in the hood. Pretty much all the parts are avalible except the undercarriage. I will keep you updated on how I fixed mine. I will have some parts for you in a couple months. Any more questions just ask. PM me If you want to call.

Congratulations on your son's purchase.  Here's some photos of Sparky Duroe's Cletrac Model 15 - to give you a good idea what it should look like

If you want to do what you want to do, you have to do what you have to do.

clueless

An oddity in my old parts catalogs:  while most that list engine ID for Cletrac 15 and 20 do show the OOC, a 79 Fel-Pro shows the 15 and 20 with both the OOC and the Cont F226. Possibly an option, or a misprint??
Nothing here is what it appears to be!

I believe the Continental F-226 was the official replacement engine after Cletrac could no longer buy the OOC Hercules during WW2. One of my land owners has a Cletrac E with an F-226 in it.

My gramps Howard van Driest was Experimental Engineer at Cletrac and Oliver Corporation. After the plant closed, he and my uncle started an excavating business, initially using Cletrac and Oliver Crawler tractors. Blake, that's correct...John Schw had mentioned it in several posts, and I'd both forgotten and neglected to note it. My apologies to John for overlooking that bit of his always excellent advice.

thanks to all for your replies, I looked over the 15 last week . the engine is a continental flat head 4 out of a massey-harris 20 farm tractor. I will be trying to start it soon. the boy is really excited to start working on it . now the parts search starts. I will try to post a few pictures soon of the thing so you guys can see whats missing . bob, I would be interested in your leftover parts when your done with them. I would pm you if I knew how it works on here.thanks again, scott

john d , thanks for the pictures,  a difference I see from my sons 15 & that one is in the radiator on the front it only says 15. the side of the radiator casting  says cletrac only , also no tool box in the hood . could this have been an early 15???  ,thanks, scott

Bob

I would go out on a limb to guess your 15 is a later one. I'm assuming this because that is more the way a 20C is styled, no tool box in hood, and 20 on the radiator with Cletrac running down the sides.

I was wrong once before, but don't tell anyone...
