Trying to locate block heater for our crawler loader 3 cylinder Hercules Gas engine. Where in the block does one(heater) fit, and what is the proper wattage to use. Looked on Kats, zero start No Luck. Wanted Part number and Mfg, so we might find it locally. Your help would be greatly appreciated. I did a Tank heater on my older J.D.420. Hope we can use a BLOCK HEATER instead of a tank heater.  Thanks for your advice and help.  Victor.

There are several types of heaters you could use.  The most common is a block heater that fits in a frost plug.  I don't know if that engine has one that is easy to get at.  If it does measure the size and any auto parts store should be able to supply one. 6 to 800 watts would be lots.  The next type is an external heater that you connect to a high and low spot on the engine.  Like from the drain port to a plug in the head.  They work very well if you have an engine that has a good high and low spot to connect into.  This type can be 1500 watts or more.  These use the density difference between the hot and cold water to provide circulation, that is why you need the largest elevation change you can get.  The other types are oil pan heaters, either internal or external.  They don't work that well as the is no circulation.  The other type fits in the lower rad hose, not the best either as they also heat the rad!  That is not easy to do in winter!
