i am looking at buying a crawler i believe it to be a ag6, the engine has the dist on the side driven by the same drive that runs the water pump and the generator is also direct drive, is this a uncommon engine and would it be hard to find parts . thanks

Sounds more like a Hercules JX.  The AG-6 used a Continental and the distributor drive is thrugh the head. Sitting on the seat and looking ahead the Hercules water pump and distributor will be on the left side, the generator on the right. If someone took the mag off of an AG-6 and put a distributor there it would be on the right. Continental F-226 engines did not use direct drive water pumps. Look on the engine side of the fire wall on the right side for an identification tag.

Either the Continental (f226) in an AG6 or a Hercules JXC, or JXD shouldn't be too hard to get parts for. The old Jeep pickups used the F226 and they are laying all over. There were also quite a few trucks that used the JX series Hercules.
