can anyone here tell me what model hercules engine this is and where I can get parts? I recently bought this machine, which is in excellent shape aside of the engine being stuck. I would like to get it running again so I can either get my money back out of it or use it. Thanks for any help. James

The engine is a Hercules, Model GO 130 up to serial number 3752346 a GO 130H to serial number 3753333 above that was a GO 130 X  .  The H has larger chrankshaft, the X model has dry sleeves as well as the larger crank.  Try Zimmermans for parts, see the classified ad section.

You did not say where you are located. Jerry Biro is North America's largest supplier of obsolete Hercules engine parts. Agco still had gasket sets as well as other Hercules dealers. If it just stuck and a set of rings are all that is needed various ring suppliers have them. Engine bearings for the H code cranks are the toughest. Jerry is in Ohio.

I am getting this back together now. once it is back together I plan on selling it. It just isn't what I need. I'm very nervous about getting parts and such. I was a complete idiot for buying this to work it.  So if anyone i interested drop me a line on here. I'm located in western NY. I post pictures as soon as I can. Thanks for your help.

could someone give me the torque specs for the head on this engine? thanks.

Robert Barbour

Head bolt torque is 140 ft lbs for all models gas and diesel.

I guess one last question for now, what is the firing order for this engine? like a moron I didn't mark the wires when i took them off. I really appreciate everyone's help. thanks again.

With a 3 cylinder there are not many options!  But 1 3 2 is it!

does anyone have a reverser gear box for this machine? The one that is in this tractor has a freeze crack on the lower left side. I am going to attempt to weld the crack shut. But in case this doesn't work I am going to need another one. Maybe even a stripped down case would be fine , as I can put the guts from the case I have into it . Thanks again.

james

Well I guess i have bigger problems than a cracked  reverser case. The engine has such lw compression that it doesnt even want to run. And to add to that....its putting antifreeze into the oil as if there is a crack in the block or in a cylinder.. I am positive I can fix the reverser crack, but if theres a crack in the block or in a cylinder I think that problem is beyond me. Can anyone help me with some ideas? Does anyone have one of these engines around that I could buy that can be rebuilt or one that is in running condition? Or is there an alternative solution for repowering this machine with something else?

Robert Barbour

The crack in the reverser could be brazed quite easily.  The leak in the engine could be just a head gasket or a bigger problem.  Did the engine have anti-freeze in it??  Also what is the engine serial number, as listed above there are 3 versions of that engine!  The only way to know for sure is to take it apart.  If it is just a head gasket, the low compression could be from stuck rings from sitting.

The engine is a 130H. I bought a head gasket from jerry biro and installed it already.

Robert Barbour

So with the 130 H you have the large crank but not the dry sleeves.  The engine was stuck and you took the head off to free it up and replaced the head gasket, is this correct??  If so was there water in any of the cylinders?? Was there rust and dirt in the cylinders? Was there water or anti-freeze in the cooling system?? Did you take the pan off?  Was there water in the oil pan??  We need some info here!

Yes it does not have sleeves. I took the head off and the pan off. The pan had some water and sludge in the bottom.  I vacumed any debris out of the cylinders  which appeared to be fairly clean. then I used a bead style cylinder hone to clean up any rust that was in the way. then I soaked the cylinders with PB blaster for 3 days which worked rather well. I was able to turn it over with some effort.I did  however see a dark line running down the side of cylinder 2, which I attributed to a possible stain from having all the gunk in there. Well Im thinking that stain was a crack. So like the hurried idiot I can be .. I just ignored it and put the head back on and ....what a shocker it leaks antifreeze into the oil and wont run. it tries to start but it wont. I have found 2 more gas engines and one diesel that I am going to look at tomorrow. I dont feel like going through the hassle of having this engine bored and sleeved if that can even be done. If one of these gas engines is a 130X I am going to buy it and the diesel. From what I understand here is that the diesel is more desirable than the gas engines? What is involved in swapping out a gas engine for the diesel?
