Did you get her thawed out? It's surprising how much energy it takes to melt that much ice - and it seems even worse when it's connected to frozen cast iron.

Yeah, got her off the trailer eventually. The trans gears were also frozen-up so I had to take filler and bottom plugs out and direct warm air through the gear case! Water was dripping out all over me lying underneath! Luckily it seems the finals drives did not have any water, which surprised me with ice up to the differential bearings.
Now I cannot select 1st or reverse because the previous owner tried to force it with all that ice in there. Probably bent one of the yokes and/or shafts. I hope I don't have to get the whole rear end free to remedy that. Ideas anyone?

HA!  I would have been tempted to light a bag of briquettes under the transaxle and roasted some kielbasa while waiting.  ;D

If that's an OC-4 I don't think you can get into the gearbox without pulling it out of the frame. At least I wasn't smart enough to figure that out when I replaced my reverse idler gear.

oliverchris

Its an OC3, but I think the problem is much the same. Grrr!

If you knew it was frozen and didn't want to pull it apart, you could mix some methanol and hot water and pour into the case. That should thaw it out, then you could just drain it out.

Good idea, Blake! That would have been a lot easier for the trans gears.

On the stuck First and Reverse Gear problem, I filled the whole transmission with Kerosene for a day. Then a sharp tap with a rubber mallet, and it freed right up  ;D Guess the rail was rusted/gummed up.
Very happy now!
Now, if I can figure out how to remedy that the previous owner removed the clutch pedal and put a different one in there, cutting off the original stops in the process!
Duh! So if you de-clutch too far, it's not nice  >:(
But I am getting there. I have to show you the bucket on this thing. Most aggressive teeth I have ever seen, and a wee bit too much for an OC3 with an OC46 bucket!

They look like backhoe teeth to me. Not loader bucket teeth.

Stand the bucket up and back through a field and it could be a chisel plow:)

I used the DDH to unload a BDH that I picked up, it had a bunch of water in it too I guess, it loaded easy over in Seattle when I picked it up (50*) when I tried to unload it a couple days later at home it wouldn't roll....lol good thing I had that big tractor...

It's amazing the amount of rain water that can run down the shift lever and ruin the transmission.

Unfortunately, I speak from experience. :(
