Hi,  I've have a OC-96 with the Hydro-static type trans.

I have a couple of Questions...

1. does the trans / Torque converter use the same Hydraulic Fluid as the Hydraulics? -as in raising and lowering the bucket or blade?

if separate where do you look or check the fluid for the Torque converter?

2. How do you drain the Hydraulic system?  there is a Bung on the bottom of the Hydraulic tank on the side.

Does this have a Filter?  I see 2 filters on the engine - I assume - one is engine oil and one is Diesel Fuel filter...

FYI... this sits outside in Oregon - so I guess it has water in the system.  I noticed it's kind a milky in the Hydraulic fluid tank...

Also - before my Uncle Passed - he told me if it sits for more than a Month - pull the oil line from the oil filter back to the pump
and put some oil in there prior to starting - the oil must drain back out of the oil and pump and then it starves the engine for oil.

Just thought I'd mention this in case some else has a similar crawler - I'd hate to see some destroy an engine.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve! Welcome

I'm currently working on an OC9 bulldozer so most information is fresh. The drive oil is Automatic Transmission Fluid type A. I'm just finding out today, but Dextron / Mercon should be the same. You fill it in the transmission case, there is a pipe plug with a built in dipstick, on the lefthand side. The engine must be running for an accurate level. Mine went thru a fit and decided to stop moving it while I was using it this summer. It was 3 or 4 gallons low. I filled it and still no go. Pulled it into the shop a couple days ago and now it works...

There is a filter for the drive under the floor boards on the left side, I ended up finding mine on the left just inside the engine compartment. Napa number 1092 if I remember right. There is also a strainer, but I haven't located mine officially yet.

On the hydraulic system I believe universal tractor fluid would be fine. The lug on the bottom of the tank drains it. There is a filter on the front of the tank towards the control valves. It is actually inside the tank, so it just looks like a cover, maybe with a line coming out of it, don't remember.

One fuel filter under the seat, one on the side of the engine. Engine oil filter is right behiend the fuel filter. Spin on oil filter number is a 1050.

Haven't had an issue with no oil psi, but have had problems with others in the past.

Good luck
