My dad and I had been on the lookout for a wide tread Oliver/Cletrac for quite some time, to make it a dedicated wet ground ditching machine.  Lo and behold we found this one all set up in a barn about 25 miles away. We were thinking that we would bolt 48" 2x6's on it, but the ones on it are only 24" and it gets along just fine, barely making a track where you can hardly even walk.

Now tell me what this thing is please. There appears to be at least two coats of paint on most of the machine. Yellow, then red primer on top of that, then green. Very faded OC-3 decal on the hood.  IXB-3 engine with no water pump. No serial number tag on the frame or bellhousing, but the frame has been well reinforced near the tie bar and could well be covering the tag. I got a set of books with it....HG owners and parts manuals, and OC-3 owners manual.

Very likely that this is the combination of a few machines. I got a pallet of parts with it....it had some serious undercarriage work not too many hours ago. Rails are almost new.  I guess I don't really care whether it's an HG or OC-3 but I would just like to know.....someday it will get paint.

Thanks for any input and I look forward to gleaning a lot of other info on here. Already planning to do the alternator mod, as generators and I don't usually get along too well!

Hey, nice find!  What I know is you have the early front idlers and with no water pump I am guessing it is a late cletrac.  Does it have a second transmission?

Orin

Nope, just the three speed. So......how do I tell early front idlers from late ones? I got some extras on the pallet of parts, I think they looked a little different than the ones on it but hadn't really investigated yet.

The early idlers have the holes in them while the late are solid with bolts.  You should be able to see the late idlers in my pics from other posts.

I re-read your post and saw you stated that your tractor had a faded OC-3 sticker, so it must be an early OC-3.

Thanks for the idler ID.

I would say it was an OC-3, but the lack of serial # tag on the bellhousing and no water pump makes me think otherwise, if the serial number breaks page is correct. Any HG after 49 should have a water pump if I read that correctly.

After 65 or 70 years its hard to say if the hood was ever switched, or the wrong decals applied, or........or.......or....... :-)
