6 or 12 volt?

I recently purchased my first Cletrac! It is a BG serial #4C160. Machine was hooked up negative ground with 6 volt battery but needed 12 volts to turn it fast enough to get it to fire. Distributor #'s are for both 6 & 12 volt. Tags on generator and starter are unreadable. Any suggestions on how to determine which it is? Any info would greatly help!

If you have lights on it check the lightbulbs
to see if they are 6/12 volts?

Hello, not had much to do with the petrol model B's but all the diesels are 12v using a pair of 6v batteries, one either side of the seat. Sam
I live in England, got interested in Cletrac's when I brought an Oliver BD in 2001, I now have an Oliver BD a Cletrac BDH and another BDH for parts and have just brought a 1919 model H. I also have a british built Track Marshall 90.  Always keen to hear from fellow collectors.

My AG6 is 6 volt posative ground. With the battery I have if it is cold at all it won't roll it fast enough to start it.
