HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / Battery placement on an Hg
December 30, 2014, 12:53:10 AM
I would like to move my 6 volt battery from between the brake handles near the seat to either side on the outside to give myself some foot and leg room. I have a Ware loader frame on my Hg. Anyone suggest a good place to place the battery or have a picture of how or where you placed your battery or any difficulties I might run into doing this. I really would appreciate any and all help. Thank you.

Thank you for the picture,It gave me some great idea's. I purchased 2 sets of weights to add to my crawlers . I like the way you positioned yours and the step does not get in the way.I have the same loader and auxiliary transmisson on an OC3. You just solved my problem.I think that I will weld a carrier similar  to the one on your weights. It would be a good place to keep chains or a chain saw.

My knee's don't bend as well as they use to when I was younger. I was wondering if anyone has a picture that they might post of a auxiliary step they might have added or possible suggestions as to where you bolt or weld a step that might allow you to more easily access the seat . I currently have 2 Oc3's and and HG that I would like to add a step if possible. Any would be appreciated .

I have what I believe is an Hg with a Trasco auxiliary transmission equipped with a Ware dozer blade. My questions are ?
1) Is the Trasco gear shift pattern  the same 3 forward and 1 reverse pattern as the H pattern on the Hg by this I mean 1st is High on the right , reverse is low on the right , 2nd is high on the left and 3rd is low on the left with neutral in the center.
2) Is this the proper way to shift the Trasco Transmission, When shifting the Trasco from one gear to the next, I put the HG transmission in neutral then put in the clutch then move the Trasco transmission from one gear to the next. After which I put in the clutch on the  Hg 's transmission and move  from one gear to the next.
3) Can you place the the Trasco transmission in neutral and just use the regular transmission if you do not need to slow down the transmission
Any help answering the above questions would be greatly appreciated

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / 12 volt battery on OC3
April 19, 2014, 01:37:23 AM
I recently got an OC3 with an alternator and 12 volt battery. Due to the bad winter,I tarped it until the weather warmed up enough to work on it. The battery was dead and would not take a charge. To be sure, I had it tested at a NAPA parts store. They said the battery was toast. The battery was was attached in this manner with the negative terminal going to the starter and the positive going to the ground. I know that 6 volt systems are connected this way but should a 12 volt system with an alternator be connected in this manner or should it be positive to the starter switch and a negative ground. Before putting in a new 12 volt battery ,I would appreciate some advice on which way to attach the battery to the cables.

HG, OC-3, OC-4 & General / hg gearshift problem
April 14, 2014, 12:55:46 AM
I have what i THINK IS A HG WITH A TRASCO AUXILLIARY TRANSMISSON. bOTH IDENTIFICATION PLATES ARE MISSING SO BASED ON COLOR AND THE ENGINE THAT'S MY BEST GUESS.I have 2 questions . The gear shift pattern does not match the pattern in the instruction manual where 2nd and 3rd should be it goes into reverse in both positions and where reverse should be it goes into a forward gear . The gear shift moves freely and there is no grinding going into a gear .Could this be influenced by the auxilliary transmisson. How exactly do you shift the auxilliary transmisson to correctly  match it to your regular transmisson. Next if the problem is solely with the regular gear shift what is the best way to open the gear shift and  fix the problem. I am new to crawlers and any help would be greatly appreciated

I am looking for a fairlead assembly that would fit either a 8A or 8G Gearmatic winch.
If you know of any business or individual that might have one for sale, I would appreciate the help in finding one.

I am in the process of re -wiring  2two OC-3 . I am going to follow the wires and replace each as I go .one OC-3  has  a 12 volt battery and the other  has a 6 volt battery. 2 questions ;can I use the same gauge wire for both and what would be the best gauge wire size to use

I will painting my OC3's in the spring . I was wondering how close  Rustoleam old caterpillar yellow was to the original color . I am not painting these for show but rather to fight rust while I use them around the farm . This color of paint is readily available in my area in both spray cans and by the gallon and moderately priced
