I was always taught to clean points with a clean dollar bill . Has always worked for me .

I have a brand new 4 speed for an HG or OC-3. Also have a torque converter for one. Haven't looked at them in years.

   Was this an experimental 4 speed ?  I am intrigued . Would it have a lower 1st gear ? Is it a unit from something else retrofitted ?

  On one of my HG's I pulled the pan because of erratic pressure .The oil pickup is a screened in area at the bottom of the pan .   The screens were so clogged it wouldn't have enough oil in that area for the pump .  If it's been sitting for 40 years I think I'd pull the pan .   

If you do NOT   get a  light, you have the polarity reversed.      If you DO  get a light, the battery is backwards

Thank you for explaining  . This line confused me though . I'm reading it as " polarity reversed " and " battery backward " as the same thing ?  Did I miss something ? Seriously , it's been a long day and I ain't feeling too smart right now , so if I'm being an idiot , say so . 

  Was me sneakily say'n  I don't need the tractor just a motor . I just wasn't gonna let it go to China  I would gladly trade it for an HG or even a good motor . I know there are some who couldn't be there yesterday    I had 3 on the trailer and one on the truck . I'm tapped out 

I mentioned it on the Facebook page , but thought I'd ask here . I bought the General at the Russell Pa auction .  I'm thinking of using it for a donor engine for one of my HG's . Will I be excommunicated ? Will anyone still talk to me ? Does anyone need to save it from me ?  I rolled it over with an old battery tonight , but darkness came before I got to checking spark and fuel . It's a single front wheel , missing air filter and grill . Mag has gotten the external coil treatment .  Other than that it looks complete , straight , and operational .

   

Well the knee jerk reaction is no , alternators are negative ground . The correct answer is , you will have to do some investigating . It is possible to purchase a positive ground alternator .  It is also possible to purchase a 6 volt alternator in either positive , or negative ground . ( I have a positive ground 6 volt alternator on a Model A Ford right now ) . Hopefully it will be marked on the alternator .

Thanks Chris .  Jr I guess I could have read your question better and answered all of it . The front trans ( tasco ) is an H pattern . When we first got the OC3 they had only been shifting the tasco from 1st to reverse and back . Using it like a reverser . The former owner even commented that it was just too slow . With some gentle but firm handling of the shifter we were able to loosen it up enough to get it to go in all the gears . 3rd gear in the front trans will be close to a 1 to 1 ratio and is pretty much the original speeds in the Oliver trans . 2nd and 1st are reduction to the input of the Oliver trans . Reverse will both reduce the input rpm and turn the input shaft backward , causing your problem . Hope that helps .

Yes reverse in the aux trans will drive the input shaft in the main trans in reverse . That will make forward gears reverse and the reverse gear forward . I use the tasco reverse to spool out the winch on the OC3 as it makes the pto turn backward too . 

   Yep me too , for $1500 , you'd be seeing pictures of it at my place .      I walk away from auctions shaking my head more often than not .     Sometimes it works out though .

OC4 diesel , Anderson blade W/ arms on the outside of the track frame , power tilt cyl at the track frame , manual angle . Ran good , told by auctioneer it had " trans problems " , looked like final drive bearings in the tool box  tracks turned once and starting to show again . Sprockets starting to look like dairy queen cone .  Something like $3600 . Thought that was a bit high myself . I went because the picture on the site looked like it was frozen in the ground  and prolly didn't run . Thought the man who bought it may be a member 

Went to the auction in Union City Pa where the OC4 dozer was . Who did I not know to introduce myself to ?

  Thanks Blake, finally stopped lurking .  Have a couple hg's and an Oc 3 , a few IH crawlers , and a bunch of wheel tractors . I have met Blake , Bob B. , and some of the guy's on here .
